Hey, could someone post a farely simple and streight forward explaination of the various speeds of internet? Of course we have dial up which is very slow, but then we have the comparison of dsl and cable. How about this t1 and t3 business? I haven't met anyone hooked up with this. I get most confused with dsl and cable. i currently have cable but have considered switching to dsl. What are the numbers like? I know there are different levels of dsl; what should I look out for? I'd appreciate a little education before I make the decision. Thanks all, have a good one!

Ok! Here goes! DSL is usually significantly less expensive than cable. I pay $60/month for cable, and right down the street where DSL is available, they're paying $30. However, my $60 gets me 6 megs per second download speeds, and 384K up. *megabits and kilobits* With DSL, however, on the high side, you only get 1.5MBPS down, and 256KBPS up. What does that mean? Simply this. Cable downloads and uploads quite significantly faster. Let me say this though. If you're not doing a lot of heavy downloading, DSL would probably be fine for you! Don't get the low side though, as it is only 768K down. Get the $30/month plan! T1 and T3 are corporate, and unless you have a lot of money, you won't be able to afford them. If you do have that kind of money, however, we need to talk!

Hehehehehe, that made me laugh! Smile, nope, not that kind of money here. Thanks for the explination though. I think I'll stick with my cable; I pay around $45 a month. Although, I don't think it is quite as fast as yours. smile!

Hi I am currently on cable or at least that is what I think it is. We have a wirles system in our house and it is not bad I think we pay about 50 a month for it all though when I am out on my own eventualy I want to get dsl and I don't do alot of downloading really at least as far as music is concerned. I guess that is all I have to say for now.
